Each visitor—each couple or family is unique. We do our best to deliver individual peace, relaxation, and the groundwork for happy memories just by making “The Hen” a nest that feels comfortable and welcoming. You’ve found that vacation rental you’ll want to return to year after year—a newer, 2400 sq ft home on a rural acre with a lake view. It’s a perfect set-up for older couples, because the Red Hen Retreat’s main bedroom and bathroom are on the entry floor. Max: six guests.

You‘re taking a vacation to North Idaho, but where should you stay?

Couer d’Alene, Post Falls, and Hayden are just south of The Red Hen Retreat and offer suburban fun—go carts, a zip line, several libraries, malls, events, dining, public trails and lakes. Athol is the small town just north of all of that—where Silverwood Theme Park awaits kids of all ages. Sandpoint is an hour north of Athol and is a hub of dining

and shopping fun. You’ll find all kinds of hiking, boating, and outdoor activities—and at Schweitzer Mountain. The city just south of Sandpoint is Sagle. Towards Garfield Bay (down Sagle Road) in Sagle is The Red Hen Retreat. It’s big enough for two couples or a family of up to six, newer, and CENTRALLY located between all of the places mentioned. Plus, you’ll have the advantage of being near all of the best trails and less populated beaches and boat launch. And, of course, who doesn’t love feeding the hens and petting a rabbit?

How do I book The Red Hen Retreat?

Currently, we’re set up to take your reservation through Airbnb. The company does a nice job screening so if you’re interested in staying, please work through Airbnb this first time. Most of our repeat guests exchange information with us for the future.

Traveling with a newborn, toddler or preschooler? We understand stresses involved with littles and those with special needs. We’ll do our best to preemptively set-up the home and calm your concerns by baby-proofing and removing potential decor that‘s too tempting for toddlers. Of course, ultimately, you’re in charge of supervision while you’re staying at The Red Hen Retreat, but we try to make parenting easier by adding gates, a high chair, changing table, baby toys, baby bath, activity table, swing set, and a family-friendly attitude to boot! Get ready for a fun stay for all!

A Word About How We Clean Before You Arrive

We actually block off the day before your arrival and after you leave to get “The Hen” cleaned to top-drawer standards. Here’s an inside look at one moment during the day a guest checked out. Most of our guests leave our home in great condition (we only instant book through Airbnb’s screening process). If you’re new to the Airbnb platform, you can send an inquiry and request to book! After each group checks out, we go into detailing mode. We want your family to come in on day one and relax knowing we did our very best to deliver a clean environment.
